ACP Snowy Mountains High Country Adventure
acp080822.jpgIntensive Photographic Weekend Workshop
Saturday 4 to Monday 6 October 2008

Landscape photographers Murray van der Veer and Mark Lang will lead you on this exciting weekend based in the Snowy Mountains High Country. The course is designed to develop your skills in the practical aspects of outdoor photography and enable you to photograph landscape narratives which come from a deeper understanding of the region.

The workshop is conducted in collaboration with the National Parks and Wildlife Service providing access to locations that most visitors never see. We will be accompanied by Shane Herrington, NPWS Discovery Ranger and indigenous Wiradjuri man, who will introduce us to his country and provide an understanding of Wiradjuri and Wogalu heritage and culture. The workshop will be based around the rustic Currango Homestead in Koscuiszko National Park. A rambling cottage, The Pines, previously used by the grazing station workers in the 1940’s, provides accommodation for the weekend, as well as an historic ambience and some amazing photo opportunities. Be prepared for medium level bush walking, stimulating conversation, and the creation of some breath-taking images.

A digital post-production workshop will be held in the ACP’s digital suite following the weekend away. All students will have the opportunity to exhibit their Snowy Mountain images in a group exhibition at the Australian Centre for Photography gallery with the possibility of a further exhibition in the Snowy region.

Students will meet at Currango around 2pm, Saturday October 4. Field trips and tutorials will run on Saturday 4, Sunday 5 and Monday 6 (Labour Day weekend). The cost of The Snowy Mountains High Country Adventure is $640 and includes two nights accommodation, meals, all tours, tutorials and field trips, the post-production workshop and exhibition installation at the ACP. There will also be an orientation meeting prior to the trip on Saturday 27 September 2 - 4pm.

Places are strictly limited

About Australian Centre for Photography (ACP)

Established in 1973, the ACP opened the doors of its first gallery in Paddington Street, in 1974. In 1981 the Centre moved to Oxford Street where it remains today. It is now Australia's longest running contemporary art space.

It is the ACP's mission to promote and enrich the understanding of photo-based art in Australia and this is achieved through a dynamic mix of exhibition, education and publication. In its blend of activities and range of photographic media, the Centre is unique in Australia.

ACP opened a Workshop in 1976. Originally in a separate building, this is now housed within the Centre in Oxford Street and includes black and white and colour darkroom facilities, a digital suite, lighting studio and library. In 1983 ACP launched the journal Photofile. It is now the leading photo-based art magazine in Australia, available through newsagents and specialist bookshops nationally.

Currently located in the heart of Paddington, Sydney's gallery district, ACP houses two exhibition spaces; a foyer display area and a Project Wall for emerging artists; an extensive workshop with comprehensive curriculum and public access facilities; a specialist bookshop and library.

The ACP is a not-for-profit organisation supported by the NSW Government through the NSW Ministry for the Arts, the Australia Council, the Australian Government's arts funding and advisory body, and the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, State and Territory Governments. The ACP raises over half of its revenue from non-government sources.
