Olympus Mju Tough 6000 Digital Camera

olympus090109c.jpgOlympus Imaging Corporation is pleased to announce the upcoming release of the Mju Tough 6000, a compact digital camera waterproof to a depth of three metres*1, shockproof from heights up to 1.5 metres*2, and snowproof at temperatures as low as -10°C*3. Fashioned for everyday punishment, the Mju Tough 6000 also incorporates Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation to ensure sharp, clear pictures, even with an unsteady hand. The Mju Tough 6000 is scheduled for release in Australia on March 2, 2009 and is available in blue, white and orange. Pricing is yet to be announced.

Pioneers of the category, and having developed nine models worldwide, Olympus' Mju Tough Series of compact digital cameras feature a waterproof, shockproof and snowproof design that assures reliable, highquality shooting under conditions that ordinary cameras would be unable to endure, such as underwater or in cold conditions. Positioned just below the top-end Mju Tough 8000, the Mju Tough 6000 optimally synthesises toughness and style.

Boasting waterproof, shockproof, and snowproof features, this camera can withstand depths of up to three metres, endure a fall from as high as 1.5 metres, resist dust, sand, and dirt as well as temperatures as low as -10°C. Continuing the tradition of toughness with technological innovation, the Mju Tough 6000 incorporates a Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation mechanism previously thought technically impossible with a shockproof design. This has been combined with the high-sensitivity shooting inherited from the Tough 1030SW to create the Dual Shakeproof Image Stabilisation function, which allows users to enjoy shooting without having to worry about camera shake even in difficult outdoor conditions or underwater.

The new 2.7 inch HyperCrystal III LCD monitor features high brightness of 1000 cd/m2 at twice the contrast level of a conventional LCD monitor4, a wide 160-degree viewing angle, and an anti-reflection coating. Whether it's the brilliant glare reflecting from the snow on a ski slope or the darkness under water this LCD monitor offers easy viewing, making it simple for users to compose shots in any kind of light.

Shooting performance in the mid range Tough series has been improved with a substantial upgrade to the lens. The Mju Tough 6000 sports a wide-angle 28mm5 zoom lens with 3.6X optical zoom, unlike its predecessors that offered a 3x optical zoom lens. The upgrade makes the Mju Tough 6000 ideal for underwater shooting where the angle of view is narrow, as well as for photographing wide landscapes or a group of people in a restricted space. High quality images are assured by the high-definition 10-megapixel CCD6 and proprietary Olympus TruePic III image processing engine.

Built tough for active lifestyles with Waterproof, shockproof and snowproof body in a stylish design Waterproof to a depth of three metres7 the Mju Tough 6000 is perfect for the poolside or the beach. It can even be safely used while participating in water sports such as surfing or water skiing. The camera's rigid structure has been drop-tested to a height of 1.5 metres8, ensuring that it can stand up to the shock and impact it may encounter during outdoor activity, and can be handled safely by children. With operation guaranteed in environments as cold as -10°C 9 , this camera is equally suited for winter sports like skiing and mountaineering. Ready to stand up to just about anything including water, sand, dirt, impact and cold, the Mju Tough 6000 is the ideal all-season, all-purpose camera.

Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation mechanism and high-sensitivity shooting to prevent picture blur due to camera shake and subject movement Powerful, CCD-shift image stabilisation was previously thought to be technically impossible with a shockproof camera, but Olympus has overcome this hurdle, developing a powerful CCD-shift image stabilisation mechanism with the development of an Olympus-original shock resistance mechanism incorporated in the camera without increasing its size. Combining CCD-shift image stabilisation with high-sensitivity shooting, Olympus' Dual Shakeproof image stabilisation effectively prevents the image blur that can be caused by camera shake or subject movement, allowing worry-free shooting in extreme environments, whether on land or underwater.

2.7-inch HyperCrystal III LCD with anti-reflection coating suitable for outdoor and underwater use
With an amazing 1,000 cd/m2 brightness at twice the contrast of a conventional LCD screen10, framing the shot in snow, at the beach or other areas of high glare is made easier with the Mju Tough 6000. In addition, the cover protecting the LCD against water pressure has an AR (Anti-Reflection) coating on both sides to reduce the reflection created in direct sunlight. To prevent water damage, the multi-layer metallic AR coating is reinforced with a water-repelling coating, making the camera ideal for demanding outdoor activities such as skiing or snorkelling.

'Tap Control' — taking an exciting method of camera control to the flagship model

The Mju Tough 6000 benefits from the recent introduction of Tap Control, found on the Tough Smart 1050SW launched in August 2008. With a built in accelerometer, users can take a photo and play it back simply by tapping the top or sides of the camera body or the surface of the LCD monitor, which is ideal for use when wearing heavy ski gloves. In addition to tapping, functions such as slideshow speed can also be controlled simply by tilting the camera, creating an entirely new sensation that increases the fun and convenience of camera ownership.

About Olympus

In Greek mythology, Mt.Olympus is the home of the twelve supreme gods and goddesses. Olympus was named after this mountain to reflect its strong aspiration to create high quality, world famous products.

"Olympus" has been used as a trademark since the time of Takachiho Seisakusho, the predecessor of Olympus Corporation.

In Japanese mythology, it is said that eight million gods and goddesses live in Takamagahara, the peak of Mt.Takachiho. The name "Olympus" was selected as the trademark because Mt.Olympus, like Mt.Takachiho, was the home of gods and goddesses. This trademark is also imbued with the aspiration of Olympus to illuminate the world with its optical devices, just like Takamagahara brought light to the world.

Takachiho Seisakusho was renamed Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. in 1942 when optical products became the mainstay of the company. In 1947, the name was changed again to Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. in an attempt to enhance its corporate image.

And in 2003, the company made a fresh start as Olympus Corporation, to show its willingness to establish a dynamic corporate brand by unifying the corporate name and the well-known brand.

In recent years, Olympus Corporation has focused on "Opto-Digital Technology" as its core competence, technological strengths that competitors cannot easily imitate, to maximize corporate value and to become one of the top optical instrument manufactures.
