Ilford C.R.Kennedy AU & NZ

ILFORD Imaging Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, the leading supplier of digital/inkjet products and photo printing technologies, announces the appointment of C.R. Kennedy & Company Pty. Ltd. to manage and distribute the ILFORD range of products in Australia and New Zealand.

Effective from 16th January 2006, ILFORD’s appointment of C.R. Kennedy follows on from the purchase of different parts of the ILFORD business earlier in the year by Harman Technology and Oji Paper. In line with their distribution policies, both companies have agreed on the appointment of C.R. Kennedy to manage their brands in Australia and New Zealand.

C. R. Kennedy is Australia's largest distributor of photographic, surveying, surveillance, medical and digital audio equipment, with a portfolio of famous brands such as Pentax, Hasselblad, Sigma, Bowens, Redwing, Elmo, Leica Geosystems, Dallmeier, Samsung Electronics, iRiver and more.

Headquartered in Melbourne since 1934 C.R. Kennedy has offices in all major Australian capital cities and Auckland, New Zealand.

Managing Director of the ILFORD Asia Pacific region, Andrew Stewart, said, “Although a sad time for us it’s also an exciting future for the brand.

“The ILFORD Company has been in Australia for 55 years, as a market leader and premium quality brand. The changing business environment and current trends has driven the need for a new model which is more suitable to broadening the brand positioning. Under this new distribution arrangement with C. R. Kennedy we expect that brand will grow even further.

“The addition of the ILFORD range of products will complement C.R. Kennedy’s existing product lines, customer relationships and servicing agreements. We believe they will have significantly greater resources to market the brand and that prices will not be adversely affected”.

The Melbourne headquarters of ILFORD will cease to operate under the new agreement, with 15 redundancies an unfortunate consequence.

Supply and market pricing of ILFORD products will remain unaltered, and schools will continue to benefit from ILFORD’s ‘Back to School’ campaign and successful ‘ILFORD Dollars’ scheme. ILFORD’s ‘Images’ magazine will also continue to showcase student work and provide information for photography in schools.

Malcolm Kennedy, Managing Director, C.R. Kennedy said, “We are thrilled to work alongside a prestige brand such as ILFORD. C. R. Kennedy’s commitment to premium brands is one of the keys to our long standing success.

“We also want to assure all of ILFORD’s customers that all their favourite products will be available. Our aim is make this transition will be as seamless as possible”.

With C.R. Kennedy managing the ILFORD brands in Australia and New Zealand, availability of ILFORD product will not change and photographers will continue to benefit from consistently reliable supply of premium black and white and inkjet media.

The ILFORD brand has been at the forefront of imaging technology and manufacture of photo quality media for over 125 years. Harman and ILFORD Switzerland continue the dedication to the research and development of world’s leading black and white and inkjet photographic products with plans for further product development and new ranges.

FACT SHEET

Who owns ILFORD?
Earlier this year UK based Harman Technology Limited and the Japanese Company Oji Paper Limited both purchased different parts of the ILFORD business.

ILFORD’s black and white manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom underwent a management buy out by Harman Technology in February of this year and in July ILFORD Imaging’s digital manufacturing facility in Marly, Switzerland was acquired by the Japanese paper company Oji Paper.

The ILFORD brand is owned by the Swiss company, ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GMBH who has granted a licence for the UK based Harman Technology to use for black and white photographic products.

Who is the new owner of ILFORD Asia Pacific? There will be no new owner as such, rather different channels of distribution in line with each of the new owner’s distribution policies.

Effective from 16th January 2006, C.R. Kennedy will take over distribution of ILFORD products in Australian and New Zealand. This signals a change in distribution rather than ownership, and a new and exciting future for the ILFORD brand, which will continue to be a market force into the future.
