Samsung 7MP Camera Phone
South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it will unveil the world's first mobile phone with a cutting-edge 7-megapixel camera at a high-tech trade fair in Germany.

Samsung, which has been closely pacing U.S.-based Motorola Inc. to become the world's second-largest mobile phone maker, said the SCH-V770 phone would offer a photo-taking capability similar to a top-end digital still camera. The new phone will be introduced at the CeBIT fair, which runs from Thursday through next Wednesday.

A price has yet to be fixed, and the company did not say when the device will go on sale.

Samsung, which released the world's first 5-megapixel camera phone last October, is stepping up its efforts to develop more-sophisticated phones for technical leadership in the highly competitive mobile phone market.

Another latest "smart phones" to be displayed by Samsung is a SGH-i300 phone with a music player capability that can store as many as 1,000 digital songs.

With Microsoft Corp.'s Windows mobile operating system, the SGH-i300 phone has 3 gigabytes of memory capacity.

During the German tech show, Samsung will also launch a commercial handset using a new wireless broadband technology called a high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) network.

The HSDPA system, known as a 3.5-generation mobile technology, can transmit data at a maximum speed of 14 megabits a second, allowing customers to watch live TV streaming and other mobile broadband services on their handsets.

Samsung, which is also the world's largest liquid crystal display (LCD) maker, will display the world's biggest LCD panel, measuring 82 inches diagonally, during the fair, the company said.

About 300 South Korean companies will participate into the CeBIT, an acronym for Center for Bureau, Information, Telecommunication.

This year, the high-tech salon was expected to draw nearly 6,000 exhibitors from around the world, organizers said. The number of visitors was also expected to be about 500,000.

About Samsung

Since SAMSUNG's founding in 1938, SAMSUNG has maintained a mission statement that responds both to its own change, and to new developments in the world: "Economic contribution to the nation," "Priority to human resources," "Pursuit of rationalism." Each slogan represents significant moments in SAMSUNG's history, reflecting different stages of the company's growth from a domestic industrial leader into a global consumer electronics powerhouse.

In the 1990's, SAMSUNG transformed its mission statement to keep pace SAMSUNG's growing global operations, rapid changes in the world economy and escalating competition from well-established rivals.
