Samsung DIGIMAX L50 Digital Camera
Samsung Camera has announced that it will release a 5 mega-pixel high-resolution digital camera with Samsung's 3x optical zoom SHD lens (model name: DIGIMAX L50) to strengthen its success in the expanding, 5 mega-pixel digital camera sector.

The DIGIMAX L50, released by Samsung Camera, is a portable pocket-sized digital camera (93.3x52.1x22.3 mm) that provides faster operation speed and a variety of functions. Even though the DIGIMAX L50 is small it has a 230k-pixel 2.5" large LCD.

The DIGIMAX L50 has a 4x digital zoom in addition to a 3x optical zoom delivering a 12x total zoom capacity. It also provides 5x zoom during playback, to check the detail in your shots. The DIGIMAX L50 uses the best Samsung LCD technology in a 230k-pixel high-resolution 2.5" large LCD. With 16.7 million True Colour representation, and wide viewing angle features this LCD offers superior quality during image playback and shot composition.

The powerful video capability of the DIGIMAX L50 means it can function as a camcorder too. For an enhanced movie shooting experience MPEG-4 is used. MPEG-4 is a high-compression high-quality video format, which can record for up to 3-4 times longer than traditional video formats used for other digital cameras. With a 256mb memory card over an hour of great video can be recorded. The DIGIMAX L50 can record in VGA (640x480) at 30 fps, to give smoother video and a bigger view of the movie on LCD screens and through the TV.

The video capability of the DIGIMAX L50 has been improved in the following areas:

First, it has a movie stabilizer to reduce camera shake. By automatic detection and correction of lateral and vertical camera vibrations it delivers even smoother video recording.

Second, the DIGIMAX L50 has a continuous video recording feature, which is based on exclusive Samsung technology. The continuous video recording feature allows you to pause and resume video recording with the results being in one file.

Third, the DIGIMAX L50 has video editing capabilities in the camera. It allows you to save a selected part of a movie clip into a new file during playback. The DIGIMAX L50 also allows you to capture a still image during video playback.

Finally, you can use the DIGIMAX A50 optical zoom to zoom in during recording (sound is muted during use of the zoom or users can use Mute button in movie clip)

The DIGIMAX L50 has special effect functions that help take picture taking a stage further. The special effect functions offered by the DIGIMAX L50 are

Colour Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame and Composite Shot.

Colour Effects include B/W, sepia, blue, red, green and negative.

Highlight enables you to emphasize a subject by putting its surroundings into soft focus.

Composite Shot allows you to divide a shooting scene into 2-4 segments and save them into a single file.

Photo Frame allows you choose from 9 different types of fun photo frame.

The DIGIMAX L50 supports Continuous Shooting and Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) functions. You can use Continuous Shooting to shoot a fast-moving subject continuously and AEB to shoot a series of pictures with slightly varying exposures.

Using the built-in image editing functions of the DIGIMAX L50, you can edit a picture in a variety of ways, without a PC. The Trimming function allows you to cut an unwanted part of an image and save only the required part. When you are short of memory, the Resizing function lets you recover some of the memory space by resizing and saving images into a smaller size. The Rotating function allows you to rotate an image in the desired direction and save it.

The DIGIMAX L50 has various scene modes to help the user take better pictures in various shooting conditions. The 11 scene modes supported by the DIGIMAX L50 are Night Scene, Portrait, Text Recognition, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks and Beach & Snow. In particular, Text Recognition is a feature that allows you to shoot documents such as books, papers and magazines and then extract text from the image taken using the "Digimax Reader" text recognition software included in the box.

The PictBridge feature of the DIGIMAX L50 allows pictures taken with a camera to be directly printed without a PC, so you can instantly obtain clear 5.0 mega-pixel prints just by connecting the camera to a compatible printer.

This, when used with the in camera editing features means you really can go from picture to print without the need for a PC. In addition, it provides a substantially faster transfer rate with USB 2.0 as compared to the existing USB 1.1.

The album feature of the DIGIMAX L50 allows you to categorize and save images based on your own criteria, including event and date, and to enjoy only selected images in a slide show.

In addition, the DIGIMAX L50 is equipped with a built-in memory (32 MB), allowing you to save pictures taken, without a memory card. With the Copy to Card function, you can seamlessly transfer images saved in the internal memory to an external memory. It also provides various useful functions such as voice recording for up to 1 hour, voice memo for adding a short voice message to a picture and "One-touch Playback" for instant playback of a picture, even when the power is off.
