![]() The new Digimax L50 digital camera will strengthen Samsung’s current success in Australia’s expanding 5 megapixel digital camera markets. With a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels, this portable pocket-sized digital camera measuring just 93.3 x 52.1 x 22.3 mm, offers a faster operational speed and a wide variety of features. Even though the Digimax L50 is small, Samsung have fi tted it with a large 230k-pixel 2.5” LCD monitor. Samsung’s special 3x SHD optical zoom lens is augmented by a 4x digital zoom giving it a total 12x zoom capacity. It also offers a 5x image zoom during playback for checking image detail. The L50 doesn’t include an optical viewfinder. A high-resolution monitor for the L50 The 230K-pixel high-resolution 2.5” large sized TFT LCD monitor uses Samsungs latest LCD technology. It offers 16.7 million True Colours and a wide view for superior image quality during playback and shot composition. The powerful video capability of the Digimax L50 means it can also function as a camcorder. Using the high-compression, high-quality, video format MPEG-4 the L50 can record for up to 4 times longer than the traditional video formats, a 256MB memory card can record over an hour of video. The 30 fps VGA format (640X480) will give smoother video and a bigger view when played through a TV. The Digimax L50 also offers a movie stabilizer to reduce camera shake. By automatic detection and correction of lateral and vertical camera vibrations it delivers smooth video recording. The video recording feature allows the user to pause video recording and then resume at the touch of a button. The separate fi les that accumulate during this procedure can then be merged together into one single fi le. The video editing capabilities of the camera allows for a selected part of a movie clip to be saved into a new fi le during playback. Another feature allows for the capture of a still image of the video during playback. The optical zoom of the Digimax L50 may be used to zoom in during video recording but sound is muted. Users can also use the Mute button in movie clip mode. Special Effect functions are many and varied The Special Effect functions offered by the Digimax L50 include Colour Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame and Composite shot. Colour Effects include B/W, Sepia, Blue, Red, Green and Negative. Highlight enables the user to emphasize a subject by putting its surroundings into soft focus. Composite shot allows the user to divide a shooting scene into 2-4 segments and save them into a single file. Photo Frame allows the user choose from 9 different types of fun photo frames. The Digimax L50 supports Continuous Shooting and Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) functions. The user can use Continuous Shooting to shoot a fast-moving subject continuously and AEB to shoot a series of pictures with slightly varying exposures. Using the built-in image editing functions of the Digimax L50, the user can edit a picture in a variety of ways without a PC. The Trimming function allows the user to cut an unwanted part of an image and save only the required part. When the camera becomes short of memory, the Re-sizing function lets the user recover some of the memory space by re-sizing and saving images into a smaller size. The Rotating function allows the user to rotate an image in the desired direction and save it. You name the scene and the L50 has it The Digimax L50 has various scene modes to help the user take better pictures in various shooting conditions. The 11 scene modes supported by the Digimax L50 are Night Scene, Portrait, Text, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks and Beach & Snow. The Text Recognition feature allows the user to shoot documents such as books, papers and magazines and then extract text from the image taken using the ‘Digimax Reader’ text recognition software included. 10 cm macro The Samsung SHD f=6.5~18 mm, 3x zoom lens, focuses from 80 cm to infi nity. Macro focus is 10 cm. The built-in fl ash modes include auto, auto with red-eye, red-eye off, fi ll-in, slow fl ash and off. ISO ratings include 50, 100, 200, and 400, Shutter speeds range from 15 seconds to 1/2000 second and the minimum lens aperture is f3.2. White balance settings include: auto, cloudy, daylight, fluorescent, incandescent, sunny and manual. PictBridge direct printing The PictBridge feature of the Digimax L50 allows pictures taken with the camera to be printed directly to a PictBridge compatible inkjet printer without the need for a PC. The user can quickly obtain clear 5.0 mega-pixel prints through the substantially faster USB 2.0 transfer rate to a compatible printer. When used with the in-camera editing features the user can go from picture to print on location with only the need of a power supply for the printer. Store your images in a photo album The Album feature of the Digimax L50 allows the user to categorize and save images based on the operator’s own criteria. Images can be sorted by event or date when required only selected images can be shown in a slide show. The Digimax L50’s 32 MB built-in memory allows the user to save images without the need of a memory card. The Copy to Card function will then allow the user to seamlessly transfer images saved in the internal memory to an external secure digital (SD) or multimedia (MMC) flash memory for transfer to a portable hard drive or a PC card reader. The internal memory also provides other useful functions such as voice recording for up to 1 hour, voice memo for adding a short voice message to a picture and ‘One-touch Playback’ for the instant playback of an image, even when power from the Lithium Ion rechargeable battery is turned off. |
