Canon’s new EOS 1100D delivers quality images as effortlessly as a compact camera New entry level EOS 1100D makes DSLR photography as easy as point-and-shoot
Canon Australia today announced the launch of the new EOS 1100D, enabling users to achieve high quality DSLR images with ease. The camera is perfect for those stepping up from a compact, as the new 1100D is packed with intuitive features that allow users to effortlessly capture high quality images at the click of a button.
“Equipped with Canon’s intuitive core technologies, the EOS 1100D will be the camera of choice for first-time DSLR users seeking DSLR quality as effortless as a point-and-shoot,” said Chris Macleod Brand Manager – EOS, Canon Australia.
The EOS 1100D will sit between the EOS 1000D and EOS 550D and boasts high performance features on par with higher grade EOS models. It features a wider ISO range (100-6400) for sharper shots in low light conditions and a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor enabling high quality images to be taken. Users will also appreciate High Definition movie recording for capturing those special moments in high quality. In addition to this is the Feature Guide, an in-built glossary of shooting modes and features, all of which work together to make the EOS 1100D as accessible to entry level photographers as a point-and-shoot camera.
Great image quality at the click of a button
The EOS 1100D combines a wide ISO sensitivity of 100-6400 and a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, resulting in clear, sharp shots even in low light conditions. Whether it is a candle-lit dinner party or a scene in shadows, it’s never been easier to capture sharp images. And the 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor achieves high image quality to support large printouts, or enough detail to enable trimming of images without loss of detail.
The EOS 1100D also offers high-speed 9-point Auto Focus (AF) for instantaneously capturing fast moving subjects, ensuring users will never miss a moment. And with the ability to continuously shoot approximately 3 frames per second, those picture-perfect moments, such as a child’s expression, won’t be missed.
Users can also enjoy the added versatility and creativity that HD movie recording offers, allowing them to shoot impressive video footage with ease.
Simple and intuitive features
Delivering intuitive features and functions, the EOS 1100D ensures entry level users who are not familiar with camera terminology can create the images they desire. Canon’s new Basic feature allows users to choose the correct settings according to the ambience of the scene. Rather than using settings such as “hue” and “exposure compensation”, a shot can be taken according to the mood and lighting circumstance – e.g. brighter, shade and sunset.
To make it easier still for first time DSLR users, Canon has introduced the new Feature Guide function. This guide provides simple explanations of shooting modes and functions. For those unsure of photographic definitions, Canon has now made it possible to expand their skill-set while shooting – without the need to reference an instruction manual.
Compact and lightweight
The EOS 1100D sports a stylish and lightweight design, especially great for entry level users who want the ease of a compact body, which helps reduce shake when shooting. Canon has also introduced a selection of three colours for the EOS 1100D giving consumers the choice of Black, Metallic Grey and a limited edition Red.
Two new Canon Speedlites and two new lenses for entry level photographers
Canon has also launched two new standard zoom lenses, the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III. With their compact and lightweight design they are ideal for entry level users who want sufficient zoom range for everyday photography.
With a high-precision aspherical lens, which corrects aberrations, capturing clear images is effortless. The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II also features an Image Stabilizer which gives the equivalent effect of a shutter speed of approximately four steps faster. In addition to this, Canon has introduced two new compact and lightweight Speedlites for entry level photographers, the Speedlite 320EX and 270EXII. For the first time on a Canon Speedlite the new 320EX will feature a built-in LED light on the front of the flash body. It is now easy for users to illuminate subjects when shooting movies.
Both the Speedlite 320EX and 270EXII feature a flash release function which enables easier wireless shooting. The new Speedlites enable photographers to mount the camera on a tripod and manually operate the flash, adjusting the lighting direction whilst also having the capability to activate the camera shutter remotely from the flash unit.
