Head On Photo Festival Launches In 2010

headon20100304.jpgA remarkable array of local and international photography is set to grace the galleries, cafes, restaurants and even streets of Sydney in May 2010.

The inaugural month-long Head On Photo Festival brings together a raft of inspiring and exciting photography exhibitions and multi media events on top of the famous Head On Portrait Photography Prize.

“We aim to attract a wide range of excellent photography from Australia and overseas that speaks for itself – regardless of whether or not the photographer is well known,” says Festival Director Moshe Rosenzveig.

The participation of over 30 of Sydney’s galleries and many more eateries makes the Head On Photo Festival a unique and wide-reaching public event.

“We are thrilled with the welcoming response from the Arts community – photographers and galleries are very enthusiastic and many have already come on board,” says Rosenzveig.

The Festival centres on the flagship Head On Portrait Photography Prize. Now in its seventh year, the portrait prize is a significant event in the photography calendar. Showcasing some of the best portrait photography in Australia, it goes from strength to strength with each new set of winning entries.

Also featured are numerous events for all people interested in photography, from professionals to happy snappers. These include retrospectives of the legendary ’70s photographer, the late Rennie Ellis, and of Oculi which will showcase some of Australia’s most eminent photojournalists.

Special ticketed events include master classes with world-class photographers as well as a series of multi-media slideshow screenings with images that are sure to fascinate and intrigue.

Other Festival events include Head Off - showcasing landscapes on large canvases, a mini trade show and a two-day seminar.

“The seminar was booked out in an hour last year and the opening night attracted over 1200 people,” says Rosenzveig.

"Clearly, the photographic community is craving more of these types of events. With this expansion into a festival, even more interest will be generated.”
